Grade 6 students from Ripley visited local cemeteries to honor veterans and assist in preparing their graves for Memorial Day. Guided by a representative from the VFW, the students carefully marked the graves with American Flags, paying tribute to those who served their country.

RCS 5th grade students participated in The Battle of the Books this past Saturday at the Chautauqua Institute. We fielded two teams of 5 this year. The Barnyard Readers and Novel Ninjas did a great job of answering trivia questions about the 12 books they read in preparation.

Mr. Morton visited and brought his tortoises today. Students learned that many Native American people look at a turtle's back as a sort of calendar, with its pattern of 13 large scales standing for 13 moons in each year. The kids had a blast!

The first Friday of May is Better World Day at RCS. Each year students complete service projects to benefit their community. Grade 6 created cards in preparation for World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15. These cards will be distributed throughout Chautauqua County.

Mrs. Kondrick's Nature Exploration recess group spotted a bald eagle today. It's nest is located on the cell tower (pictured). The students are pointing at the Eagle. The camera women couldn't get a clear shot of this noble creature after getting the students pictures first. lol

April's Crew Celebration recognized students for their attendance, reading completion, and school spirit. Following this all students were introduced to this month's Leadworthy word, 'Perseverance'. All students completed an egg race to practice. Let's finish strong!

4th grade students had an exhilarating experience during their visit to the Gaffar Adam Karate Academy. RCS scholars learned the fundamental kicks, blocks, and strikes, along with valuable self defense techniques. It was an educational and thrilling Adventure for all!
